Berlin School of Creative Leadership

Berlin School of Creative Leadership is part of Steinbeis-Hochschule Berlin and offers an accredited Executive Master of Business Administration degree to mid-career creative professionals from around the world. The school was founded in 2006 through the Art Director's Club Germany and has taught students from industries such as advertising, marketing, journalism, finance and education. It is a registered non-profit organization.

History

The Berlin School of Creative Leadership was founded in 2006 by a group executives from creative industries, and with the help of the Art Directors Club Germany. In partnership with the School of Management and Innovation, a branch of Germany's private business school Steinbeis University, the Berlin School of Creative Leadership offers a Part-Time Global Executive MBA and Executive Education programs designed for professionals in creative industries. Programs are taught in the English language. It has had students from 50 countries. Since its inception, Michael Conrad, the former Creative Director of Leo Burnett Worldwide, Inc, has been President of the school.

Executive MBA Program

The Executive MBA program can be completed during a one or two-year cycle and consists of five two-week modules that take place in Berlin, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Shanghai and Tokyo. Professors are brought in from universities and companies from around the world and each class has mentors, typically well-known creative leaders such as Sir John Hegarty who founded Bartle Bogle Hegarty and Piyush Pandey the Executive Chairman & National Creative Director Ogilvy & Mather India, who was named 8 years in a row as the 'Most Influential Man of Indian Advertising' by The Economic Times. Besides the classes, students complete group projects as well as a Master's Thesis, which is presented to an audience during the final module in Berlin.

The core mission of the school is to have a 'Creative CEO in every creative enterprise'. The program covers the same basic courses as other Executive MBA programs, but tailors them to the creative industries, using case studies, scholarly journals, group projects and 'president's lectures' given by executives in the creative field.

Executive Education

The Berlin School of Creative Leadership also offers non-degree open enrollment programs in leadership, strategy and innovation; custom executive education; and partner programs such as the Cannes Creative Leadership Program and Advanced Leadership Program in Malaysia.

Notable Achievements

During the 2011 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival 16 Berlin School of Creative Leadership graduates took home 109 Golden Lions, 9% of the total Lions awarded. Luiz Sanches, Creative Director at AlmapBBDO in São Paulo, which won its 2nd consecutive Agency of the Year award by racking up 40 Lions in all. Some of the campaigns that led to the win included Volkswagen Original Parts, which won 4 Silver Lions in Film, or Billboard magazine, which netted 5 Gold and 5 Silver in the Press category.
