Bernardino Piñera
Bernardino Piñera Carvallo (born September 22, 1915) is a Chilean prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He was born in Paris, France. At the age of 100, he is the oldest Catholic bishop of South America.
Life
Piñera was ordained a priest on April 5, 1947. He worked for the Catholic Action. On February 11, 1958 Pope Pius XII appointed Piñera Carvallo auxiliary bishop of Talca. Later, he was appointed Bishop of Temuco (1960–1977) and Archbishop of La Serena (1983–1990). From 1983 until 1988, he was president of the Episcopal Conference of Chile. Piñera Carvallo attended the Second Vatican Council from 1962 until 1965. He is the paternal uncle of Chile's president, Sebastián Piñera
