Bhawanigarh is a town and a municipal council in Sangrur district in the state of Punjab, India. The town is also called Dhode, after the clan of its original founders. The town lies 19 kilometres east of Sangrur on the Patiala-Sangrur road. Patiala is 36 kilometres east of Bhawanigarh.

As of 2001 India census,[1] Bhawanigarh had a population of 17,780. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Bhawanigarh has an average literacy rate of 62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 66% and female literacy of 57%. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. The name Bhawanigarh originates from "Bhawani" mata. There is a temple of Bhawani mata in Bhawanigarh.
