Big Hit Entertainment (Hangul: 빅히트 엔터테인먼트), is a South Korean record label founded in 2005 by music producer and former JYP composer Bang Sihyuk, also known as "Hitman Bang."

History

Big Hit Entertainment was founded on February 1, 2005.[3] Lim Jeonghee debuted with Big Hit in 2005. In 2007, Joohee became part of the mixed-gender trio 8Eight with Baek Chan and Lee Hyun. In 2009, boy group 2AM moved to Big Hit from JYP Entertainment for four years. In 2013, 2AM's contracts with Big Hit ended and three of the members returned to JYP. Lee Changmin stayed with Big Hit due to his desire to focus on his solo career and duo 'Homme'.[4]

In 2010, Bang Sihyuk held nationwide auditions and the first member of BTS, Rap Monster, was signed. A year later, Suga was confirmed as a rapper for BTS. J-Hope, Jin, Jimin, V, and Jungkook were also recruited for the group. They debuted in 2013.[5]

In 2012, GLAM (GirLs be AMbitious) was formed. This group was a collaboration between Source Music and Big Hit entertainment, consisting of Dahee, Trinity, Zinni, Miso, and Jiyeon. Trinity left before debuting due to personal reasons. This group was active until 2014. They disbanded as Dahee had gone to jail due to blackmailing Lee Byunhun with model, Lee Jiyeon. She was sentenced to jail for a year. At that time, GLAM's contract with Big Hit entertainment had expired. The members decided not to renew their contract, partly due to Dahee's scandal.[6]

In May 2015, Signal Entertainment Group (Signal), a KOSDAQ-listed company specializing in artist management and television production, acquired Big Hit through a 60 billion-dollar convertible bond. Signal also owns Better ENT, the agency founded by actor Song Seungheon, as well as another record label, Jungle Entertainment.[1]

In July 2015, Lim Jeonghee parted ways with Big Hit Entertainment after working with Bang Sihyuk for ten years.[7]
