Biju Toppo is an Indian Award-winning, social-issue documentary filmmaker,[1] he has been dedicated to bringing the stories of Indigenous people to film. In addition to filmmaking, Biju also teaches video production at St. Xaviers College in Ranchi, India. He is Adivasi[2]

Introduction

He and Meghnath Bhattacharya belong to Akhra, a group working in the field of culture and communication in Jharkhand.

'Akhra' is a pioneering group that has been making films on the indigenous people’s issues since 1995. They have produced many award winning films which took up burning issues related to the indigenous people’s survival.

On 9 September 2011, Jharkhandi filmmaker-duo Meghnath Banerjee and Biju Toppo were awarded prestigious National Film Award by the President Pratibha Patil at a glittering ceremony held at Delhi’s Vigyan Bhavan[3]
