Bill Cunningham was a Canadian photographer, once regarded as Canada's most famed photographer. He was born in 1908 in British Columbia, Canada. In 1924 he graduated from Vancouver College. During his college years, he had a great ambition to become a photographer and so he was hired by the local Vancouver Sun in 1939, at the age of 31 years. In 1944, Cunningham joined another paper named the Vancouver Province. He would go on working for the Province for 27 years. It is alleged that Cunningham took over 65,000 pictures during his lifetime. After he retired from the Province in 1973, he established a solo career until he died in 1993, at the age of 84. He is currently survived by five daughters and one son.[1]

Achievements

Cunningham has received numerous awards, including the 1983 induction into the BC Sports Hall of Fame’s W.A.C., Bennett Award and the UBC Big Block Club award.[2]
