Birla Institute of Applied Sciences (BIAS), is a higher education institute located in Bhimtal, Uttarakhand, India. It is a sister institute to the Birla Institute of Technology. Formerly affiliated to Kumaon University, it is affiliated to Uttarakhand Technical University.[1]
Location
Birla Institute Of Applied Sciences in Bhimtal, in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. The campus is spread over an area of about 10 hectares (25 acres).
Academics
This institute offers full 4-year B.Tech courses and a 3-year MCA course.
Admissions
Undergraduate courses admission is through All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and counselling by Uttarakhand Technical University. Postgraduate course admission is based on a common entrance test conducted by Uttarakhand Technical University.
Infrastructure
The institute campus consists of a central academic block, laboratory blocks, workshops, computer centers and staff quarters besides separate hostels for boys and girls. The institute is fully residential and includes the mess, common room. The institute is self-contained with its own security arrangements, co-operative store, cafeteria and a PCO to take care of the sundry needs of the residents.
The central academic block consists of lecture halls, computer labs, a well-equipped library, a Dspace Digital Library and an IEEE Digital Library access. It also houses the conference room and various offices.
The Institute is also engaged in social service since very 1975. It runs two mobile vans which go to various places in remote hilly areas. These projects are supported by USAID. Apart from this, college runs an Eco Society, Which takes care of some poor villages.
Central library
The institute central library is a quite serene place; well equipped with documents that caters the information demand of the student and staff of the institute. The library currently has a collection of around 5000 volumes which contains books, CDs, project reports etc. and is growing steadily at the rate of approximately 600 documents per year.
The library subscribes to 32 periodicals, 16 magazines including technical titles and 16 journals from both national and international publications.
Training and certification
Apart from the university curriculum, the institute also provides various internationally approved training programs and globally accepted certification courses, so that the students can keep pace with the upcoming advancements in technology and with the current demands of the market. These courses provide a cutting edge to the students and help them attain the utmost level of expertise in their chosen fields. Some of these certification courses are:
Training is also provided in Multisim, Ultiboard, MATLAB, PC-Hardware, PCB Designing, Open Source Software, AS/400 etc.
