Black Book, also known as Black Book Market Research, is a Tampa, Florida technology and services market research and opinion research company. The company provides competitive intelligence, market research, opinion mining and related consulting services for brand, product and service awareness tracking.[1][2] The company also provides private polling services for media outlets, including U.S. News & World Report[3] and the The Wall Street Journal.[4]

The company is privately owned by Douglas Brown, who also serves as the group's CEO.[5]

History

Black Book was founded in 2002 by Doug Brown, who along with then partner Scott Wilson founded sister company Brown-Wilson Group.[6] In May 2005, Brown and Wilson co-authored the first Black Book of Outsourcing, published by John Wiley & Sons,[7] and produced an updated edition in 2008.[8] In April 2009, Brown-Wilson Group and its outsourcing and offshoring industry subsidiary also known as Black Book of Outsourcing were purchased by London UK-based Informa subsidiary Datamonitor.[9] Brown-Wilson group eventually bought the rights to The Black Book of Outsourcing back from Informa.

In November 2010, Black Book announced the results of a four month poll of 30,000 health professionals which selected top Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software by hospital type.[10]

Black Book's 2013 survey of top Electronic health record EHR vendors received coverage for declaring 2013 the year of the EHR vendor replacement, citing the 25% of respondents who replied that they were actively seeking a new EHR provider.[11][12][13]

Also in 2013, Black Book began doing private polls for U.S. News & World Report.[3][14]

In 2014, Black Book warned that the world’s hospitals were unprepared for highly communicable diseases, particularly Ebola, which lead to industry-wide improvements in the infection control response and treatment capabilities in American communities.[15]

In 2016, Black Book published polling results expressing hospital frustration with poor tech support.[16]
