Black Creek (Lehigh River)

Black Creek is a 4.4-mile-long (7.1 km)[1] tributary of the Lehigh River in Carbon County, Pennsylvania in the United States.[2]

The tributary Quakake Creek, is also listed by the Geographic Names Information System as a variant name.[3]

Black Creek was named because of the because of the dark pigment in the water. Historically, Black Creek was also known as Hazel Creek, stemming from the hazlenut trees that grew alongside its banks.[4] The upper reaches of the creek passing through Weatherly are also referred to by locals as Hazel Creek.

Black Creek is formed by the confluence of Beaver Creek and Hazel Creek above Weatherly.

Black Creek joins the Lehigh River near the community of Rockport.[2]
