Black House Media (BHM) is a public relations and digital communications agency headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria with an office in London, United Kingdom.[1] Founded in 2006 by Adekunle Ayeni, Black House Media manages strategic communications programs for companies with interests in entertainment, lifestyle and fashion, media, consumer and technology.
Background
Black House Media has its historical roots inAll You Ever Need in Entertainmen (A.Y.E.N.I. Entertainment), a publicist service company, now defunct. Consequent upon a rebranding exercise carried out by its owner Adekunle Ayeni on A.Y.E.N.I. Entertainment, BHM came into existence. BHM, which modus operandi stems from the adoption of the principles and practice of traditional, social and digital public relations, is said to have taken off with "zero Nigerian Naira". "I have two businesses, NET newspapers and BHM. Both businesses were started with zero naira...There was a time we had just two staffers, myself and Nike Fagbule...There was a time we were squatting...", Ayeni narrates.[2][3] Ayeni reported that the company exceeded one million dollars valuation in 2012, and has "nearly 60 people" as employees.[4] With its induction in 2013, Black House Media became a member of the Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria (PRCAN), a trade sectoral group founded in 1984 for the public relations industry in Nigeria.[5][6] Several Nigerian newspapers and journals have done reviews on Black House Media. The Brand Journalists' Association of Nigeria, in a feature report done on the public pelations industry in Nigeria, profiled BHM as one of the "Only eight out of the 48 members of the Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria (PRCAN) (that) pay workers regularly".[7] Raheem Akingbolu of ThisDay, in his report titled "54 Years After, Marketng Sector Still Experience Enormous Challenges", described Black Media House as "taking the lead in the area of digital PR".[8] In Nigeria, BHM has also been described as "a public relations firm that is reputed to have handled most entertainment events"[9]
BHM Application
In 2012, Black House Media raised a team of software and content developers to develop the BHM App, the "first PR mobile application" and a "a pioneering effort."[10] The application is a pool of resources for the Nigerian public relations practitoners, which seeks to meet the information need of the app user.[11] in Nigeria. BHM founder, Adekunle Ayeni, explained that the BHM App was inspired by "the crave for best practice. It is high time the Public Relations industry in Nigeria kept the world abreast about its stories and the great things happening in the market. It is our belief that Agencies’ database, news hub, social PR, news and tips and workshop videos that would be on this application will help marketing practitioners, including journalists to be more accurate and informed." The application was unveiled at an event graced by industry experts. The application has been described as "a complete resource centre for the entire media and marketing communications industries especially for the clients seeking information about PR agencies in the country.".[12][13][14][15]
