Black Walk is a Canadian film and television production company located in Whitby, Ontario, Canada, founded in 1992 by Mihkel Harilaid, David Fowler, and Steph Scott.[1] Originally a producer for music videos, it now produces long form materials such as television programs and the Dark Rising series.
History
During the 1990s Black Walk produced over 500 music videos, including hits from numerous American and Canadian performers such as Shaggy, Creed, Alanis Morissette, and Nickelback.[2]
Later, CEO Mihkel Harilaid decided to move into independent film production. As of 2015, the company has produced over twelve features as well as multiple TV projects.[3]
Black Walk’s film credits include the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival Favourite and Independent Spirit Award Winner Phil the Alien, the 2004 feature film Ham & Cheese starring Dave Foley, Jason Jones and Samantha Bee and the 2007 sexy sci-fi-comedy Dark Rising which was nominated in 2008 for 6 Canadian Comedy Awards.
2011 brought three new releases including Medium Raw: Night of the Wolf,[4] an action-thriller starring John-Rhys Davies, William B. Davis, and Mercedes McNab.[5]
Black Walk has been continuing to produce the Dark Rising franchise[6] which includes filming the new series Dark Rising: Warrior of Worlds in Sudbury, Ontario[7][8] along with the help of the Northern Ontario Film Studio.[9]
Currently, Black Walk is filming and in post production for a Christian Television series, Reflections for the DayStar Network.[10]
