Blueair is a Swedish company that designs and manufactures indoor air purifiers for people who are concerned about the air quality at home or work.[1] Blueair's air purifiers are sold in over 60 countries around the world, with the main markets being China, the United States and Korea. The head office is located on Danderydsgatan in Stockholm, Sweden.
History
Blueair was founded in 1996 in Stockholm by Bengt Rittri, who had earlier worked for Electrolux. Together with Johan Wennerström, a Licentiate of Energy Technology at the Royal Institute of Technology and expert in filter development, he designed and developed the first Blueair air purifiers.
Today Blueair is present in more than 60 countries in Europe, Asia and North America.[2] According to a Euromonitor study from 2011, in 2010 Blueair had grown into one of the top five air cleaning brands in the US.[3] During 2015, Blueair’s China operation celebrated its tenth anniversary, with products sold at more than 600 stores in key locations across the country and on online platforms such as JD.com and Alibaba’s TMall.
Products
Blueair manufactures a broad range of portable air purifiers for cleaning indoor air of pollen, pet dander, mold spores, smoke, dust and other airborne pollutants. The air purifiers use a patented technology called HEPASilent.[4] The technology combines mechanical and electrical forces by using a fan, a filter and ionization.[5] The fan pulls the air into the unit where it goes through an ionization chamber, where ions charge the particles in the air.[6] That makes the particles more easily cling to the filter before the air is pushed back out to the room. In 2015, Blueair launched "Clean air intelligence", Wi-Fi enabled air purifiers that are connected to the Aware air quality monitor and the Blueair Friend app.
Blueair Classic
The Blueair Classic comes in five series: The Classic 200 series, the Classic 300 series, the Classic 400 series, the Classic 500 series and the Classic 600 series. A new Classic range will be released in mid 2016, which will have a more energy-efficient motor, an interface under a top lid that flips open to reveal the electronic display indicating when a filter needs changing, a Wi-Fi indicator, an operating speed indicator as well as indicators showing levels of PM2.5 dust and VOCs (volatile organic chemicals) in the indoor air.
Blueair Pro
The Blueair Pro comes in three sizes, Pro M, Pro L and Pro XL. The Pro M is suitable for a room up to 36 square metres (390 sq.ft.), the Pro L for a room up to 72 square metres (780 sq.ft.) and the Pro XL for a room up to 110 square metres (1180 sq.ft). The Blueair Pro guarantees five air changes per hour.
Blueair Sense and Blueair Sense+
Blueair Sense is a motion-controlled indoor air purifier and the second generation of the Blueair indoor HepaSilent air purifiers family, first launched in 1996. The Sense was designed by Sweden’s Claesson Koivisto Rune architectural and design agency. The Sense has won international design awards, including a ‘red dot: best of the best award’ in March 2013. The ‘red dot’ awards are organized annually by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany. The Blueair Sense has also been honored by Japan’s Institute of Design Promotion, Sweden’s ‘Design S’ awards and the 2012 Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design. In 2015, Blueair launched the Sense+ air purifier, which is Wi-Fi enabled and comes in six different colors.
Blue
The Blue air purifier has a 360 degree air intake and comes in five colors. It removes several airborne pollutants and has low energy consumption.
Blueair Aware air quality monitor
The Blueair Aware monitors the air quality indoors, including airborne particles such as PM 2.5, carbon dioxide and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It also measures temperature and humidity. The Blueair Aware sends air quality data, updates and alerts to a smartphone when used with the Blueair Friend app.
Blueair Friend app
The Blueair Friend is an app that is monitoring outdoor and indoor air quality. It reads the outdoor air quality and recommends the users measures to stay healthy in case of bad air quality. The Blueair Friend app also allows the user to control functions on the Sense+ air purifier, such as the airflow speed, LED light, child lock and night mode, or to switch it on or off remotely.
