Bluff Island (Andaman)

Bluff Island is a small island in the Andaman Islands, separated from Spike Island to the west and South Andaman to the south by narrow channels, about 500–600 m wide. Its area is 1.14 km2.[1] It is part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Territory of India

In 1949, the few surviving Great Andamanese people were relocated to this island to protect them from diseases and other threats.[2] On this island their population reached the all-time low of 19 individuals in 1961. In 1969 they were relocated to the slightly larger Strait Island.[2] In 1987 the island was turned into a nature preserve.[1]
