Bomah Hotel Gulu is a three star hotel in Gulu, the largest city in Northern Uganda. It is the biggest hotel in the entire North and North Eastern region of Uganda and the only hotel with an elevator in the entire region. The hotel was developed in phases, the first building of Bomah hotel was built in 2002, 10 rooms. it was more of a lodging facility, the proprietor later acquired Bank Loans from Uganda Development Bank, Stanbic Bank and Centenary Bank to further develop it into a three star hotel. The main accommodation block was completed in 2011. It is still undergoing further development.
Location
The hotel is located in the heart of Gulu, at 8 Eden Road, approximately 2 kilometres (1.2 mi), north of the central business district of the town. The coordinates of Bomah Hotel Gulu are:2°46'48.0"N, 32°18'01.0"E (Latitude:2.780000; Longitude:32.300278).[1]
History
In 1992 Construction of the first Bomah Hotel begun in Kitgum, the construction was later completed in 1998. It started as a semi detached three bedroom house then later converted into a 21-room hotel with conference hall, dining, kitchen, bar and a swimming pool. The success of Bomah hotel kitgum gave birth to Bomah Hotel Gulu. In 1999 the directors of the business went ahead to acquire land in gulu town to begin development of the hotel. The first phase of development begun in 2001 with a 10-room guest house then three years later in 2004 development of a 5 storeyed main accommodation block begun. The block contained 80 rooms and it was completed in 2011 with help from the Banks. In 2012 the extension of large conference hall that can accommodate up to 500 people and the health club (swimming pool, gym, Sauna and steam bath) was completed in 2014. Currently an open restaurant is being developed and nearing completion. All these according to the directors has been achieved with tremendous support from the Banks, namely; Uganda Development Bank, Centenary Bank and Stanbic Bank.[2]
Ownership
The Bomah hotel Gulu is owned by the family of Hilary Onek, the current Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees in the Ugandan Cabinet.[3] The company also developed, owns and operates a sister hotel in Kitgum, called Bomah Hotel Kitgum and a sister tour company known as Bomah tours and travel. Amenities
Hotel amenities include conference rooms, a cocktail bar, a restaurant, a health club, Swimming pool, Gym and a sauna, spacious manicured lawns, free parking and a swimming pool. All rooms are equipped with land line telephone, satellite television, a refrigerator, air conditioning, free 4G wireless Internet (The wireless internet service is also available in the entire Hotel) and in-room safes. Rates are inclusive of taxes and complimentary breakfast and free access to the health club .[5][6]
