Bongani Mawethu Mayosi is a South African cardiology professor who was awarded his county's highest honor, the Order of Mapungubwe (Silver) in 2009.[1] He is the head of the Medicine Department at the University of Cape Town, who is currently appointed Dean of the Faculty of Medicine from September 1, 2016.[2] His father was a medical doctor and so is his wife; his research interests include Rheumatic fever, Tuberculous pericarditis and Cardiomyopathy.[3][4] He is a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa and a former President of the College of Physicians of South Africa [5]
