Borosil

Borosil Glass Works Ltd. (BGWL) (BSE: 502219[1]) is a glassware company based in Gujarat, India. The company is one of the largest glassware producing companies in India with a significant presence in USA, Netherlands and in India.

History

Borosil is the market leader for laboratory glassware[2] and microwavable kitchenware in India. It was established in 1962 in collaboration with Corning Glass Works USA.[3] In 1988, Corning divested its share holding to the current Indian promoters.

Indian glass industry

The net worth of the Indian glass industry is around $2.7 billion. Growth in use of glass is expected in the construction (9%), automotive (19%), consumer goods (10-12%) and pharmaceuticals (12-15%) sectors in next few years. The Indian container glass industry currently estimated to be worth US$1 billion and this sector is expanding with a growth rate of approximately 12%. Borosil is the market leader for laboratory glassware and microwavable kitchenware in India.

Products

The company's products include laboratory glassware, instruments, disposable plastics, liquid handling systems and explosion-proof lighting glassware for the education sector and for industries including microbiology, biotechnology,[4] photoprinting, process systems and lighting.
