Bowen Courthouse circa 1885

Bowen Courthouse is a heritage-listed court house, located in Herbert Street, Bowen in Queensland, Australia.

The courthouse was completed in 1881 in the classical revival style. It is a two-storey building and was constructed in rendered brick with a corrugated iron roof.[1]

It is still in use today and contains most of the original furniture and features.[1]

History

The building was designed in the Colonial Architect's office by GS Connolly.

It underwent a $4 million refurbishment in November 2004. The work included the installation of an additional courtroom, closed-circuit television, a lift and videoconferencing technology. The refurbishments were completed in late 2006.

The courthouse is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992.[2] It has also been listed by the National Trust of Queensland and the Australian Heritage Commission.
