Bozteck Remote Desktop Manager is a remote systems management console that is derivative from the earlier work entitled "VNCScan Enterprise Network Manager". The name was abbreviated to VENM and is pronounced [venom] verbally.

History

Bozteck VENM Remote Desktop Manager was originally released on June 23, 1998 as VNCScan Enterprise Network Manager by Steve Bostedor in Jackson, Michigan USA.

When Virtual Network Computing was released for free by the team at the Olivetti & Oracle Research Lab (ORL), there grew a need for a console that could scan a local network for VNC servers and place them into an organized list which could launch a viewer connection when one of the computers were double-clicked upon. Steve Bostedor created the VNCScan to answer this need and released it in June, 1998 for availability on the VNC mailing list for download.

In 1999, Steve teamed up with Philippe Green to develop the software further and re-released VNCScan under the company named Two Guys and a Compiler Software (TGCS). At this phase, Steve wrote the first VNC remote deployment interface and incorporated it into VNCScan.

By March, 2005, VNCScan had added support for TightVNC and UltraVNC deployment. In that release cycle, VNCScan also added a multi-threading to the VNC scanner as well as numerous other enhancements.

In April, 2005, the console added support for the UltraVNC repeater, encryption, windows VNC authentication, and introduced a graphical method of rebooting a remote computer into safe mode with the ability to VNC to it. This was revolutionary as there was no previously documented tool to do this.

In January, 2009, Bozteck introduced remote scripting into the console. Shortly after, their blog announced the ability to TCP scan remote computers in the background with up/down notifications and events.

In April 2015,[1] Bozteck VNCScan was rebranded with a new logo as Bozteck VENM Remote Desktop Manager to show that VNC was only one of many things that the tool can do for remote desktop management.
