Brandon Peter Pettigrew[1] (born February 23, 1985) is an American football tight end for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Lions with the 20th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at Oklahoma State.
High school career
Brandon Pettigrew played high school football at Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, Texas, where he was teammates with Matt Flynn, Justin Warren, and Ciron Black.
College career
Pettigrew played college football at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He finished his senior season with 42 receptions for 472 yards.[2] During his career he had 112 receptions for 1,450 yards and nine touchdowns.
Professional career
Detroit Lions
In the 2009 NFL Draft Pettigrew was selected in the first round by the Detroit Lions with the 20th overall pick.
At the 2009 NFL Combine, Pettigrew's official 40-yard dash was a 4.83, he bench pressed 225 pounds 22 times, and posted a vertical jump of 33 inches.[3]
The best game of his rookie season came on November 22 against the Cleveland Browns: he caught six passes for 72 yards, including the game-winning touchdown.
Pettigrew suffered a knee injury during the opening drive of the Lions' annual Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit. The next day, an MRI revealed he will require season-ending surgery.[4]
On December 1, 2009, Pettigrew was officially placed on injured reserve and missed the rest of the 2009 NFL season.[5]
During the 2010 NFL season, Pettigrew ranked third among tight ends with 71 receptions. He also finished seventh among tight ends with 722 receiving yards.
In a December 13, 2015, game against the St. Louis Rams, Pettigrew suffered a torn ACL. He was placed on injured reserve on December 15.[6]
