Bread and Butter tradeshow

Karl-Heinz Müller, initiator of B&B, at Berlin Tempelhof Airport, the location of the fashion show since 2009.

Bread and Butter (shortened to B&B) is a trade and fashion show for everyday clothing and streetwear.[1] It was established in 2001 and is held annually in January and July during Berlin Fashion Week. It is a leading trade fair for ready-to-wear fashion.[2][3][4]

History

The show was initiated by German entrepreneur Karl-Heinz Müller and premiered in July 2001 in Cologne-Deutz.[5] It was initially conceived as a bi-annual event "for the progressive, contemporary clothing culture", targeted to a German audience, as a parallel event to the jeanswear show Interjeans.[6][7] From 2003 until 2007 it was held at Gartenfeld in Berlin. It had a spin-off in Barcelona since 2005 and completely relocated there in 2007.[8] Since summer 2009 the B & B tradeshow is back in Berlin and located at the historical hangars of Tempelhof Airport.[9]

The first Bread & Butter spinoff in Seoul, Korea is due to start in 2015.[10] In June 2015, the trade fair was acquired by Berlin-based fashion company Zalando, which intends to open the event for a broader audience as a "fashion festival".[11]
