Brett Arends
Brett Arends (born Poughkeepsie, New York) is an American writer and journalist. He is the author of a biography of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, The Romney Files , a book about personal finance, Storm Proof Your Money., and a book about sports gambling, Spread Betting: A Football Fan's Guide . He wrote a weekly column for Smart Money before the magazine closed.
Journalism
Arends has been a columnist for the Wall Street Journal, and for other Dow Jones publications including MarketWatch.com, since 2007. He was also a contributing editor for Smart Money magazine until it closed in 2012. Prior to joining the Wall Street Journal, he had been a columnist and reporter for the Boston Herald and TheStreet.com, and a writer for Private Eye and the Daily Mail in London. Arends received an individual Best in Business award from The Society of American Business Editors and Writers in 2007 for his columns at TheStreet.com , and was part of the Boston Herald team that won two SABEW awards in 2006. He has appeared on 60 Minutes, the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, CNBC, MSNBC, CNN, the John Batchelor Show, and many other radio and TV programs.
Arends is a former analyst and consultant for McKinsey & Co.. He was educated at Cambridge and Oxford universities.
