The Brewster Whitecaps are a collegiate summer baseball team based in Brewster, MA. The team is a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League and plays in the league's Eastern Division. Brewster played its home games at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School until 2006, when Stony Brook Field[1] was opened. Like other Cape League teams, the Whitecaps are funded through merchandise sales, donations, and other fundraising efforts at games such as fifty-fifty raffles.

Last season, Brewster finished in third place in the Cape Cod Baseball League's Eastern Division. The Whitecaps' last playoff appearance came in 2006, where they lost the Eastern Division Championship Series two games to one to the eventual Cape Cod Baseball League Champion Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. The Whitecaps won their only league championship in 2000, when they finished twelve games above .500 and swept the Hyannis Mets in the championship series.

History

The Whitecaps first season in the Cape League was 1988 when both they and the Bourne Braves were inaugurated into the league.[2] Brewster would qualify for the post-season the next year, when they lost in the Eastern Division Championship Series to Yarmouth-Dennis two games to none. Brewster would again be eliminated in the Division Championship Series in 1992 by the Chatham Athletics.

Brewster's first championship series appearance came in 1994 after defeating the Orleans Cardinals in the Division Championship Series two games to one. The Whitecaps would, however, be swept by the Western Division Champion Wareham Gatemen that year, two games to none.

Brewster finally broke through in 2000 when they claimed the league championship after winning 28 games that season. In the playoffs, Brewster defeated Chatham two games to one to advance to the championship series, where they swept the Hyannis Mets in two games. This title in 2000 remains the Whitecaps only Cape League championship to date.

Brewster's recent success in the regular season has not translated into post-season success. Though they have qualified for the playoffs in three of the last five years, Brewster has been unable to get past the Eastern Division Championship Series, losing each year to the eventual Cape League champions.[3]

Uniform

The Whitecaps used to have only one jersey, a light blue jersey with "Whitecaps" written in dark blue traditional script writing. The team was given both a home and away jersey in 2000. The home jersey, which is still in use as of the 2011 season, is white, with dark blue under the arms, and light blue trim. The word "Whitecaps" is now written in light blue, The batting helmet logo is a wave forming a letter "C" and then the letters APS. The hat is dark blue with a big white letter "B" on it with light blue trim, the pants are also white with light blue trim and dark blue socks with three light blue rings. The away jersey is simply dark blue with light blue script letters that say "Brewster". Both uniforms also have the players number in the front and on the back. The jerseys do not contain the players last name on the back. The official sponsor is Ocean Edge Resort. Starting in 2010, the Whitecaps debuted an alternate cap. The new cap is white with a navy blue brim and a navy blue "W" on the front.
