Brian Arthur Smith (born 15 August 1943) was the Bishop of Edinburgh in the Scottish Episcopal Church.[1]

Smith was born in Edinburgh and educated at George Heriot's School, Edinburgh[2] and the University of Edinburgh,[3] Ordained in 1973,[4] he began his ordained ministry with a Curacy at Ripon College Cuddesdon[lower-alpha 1] From here he became successively Director of Training within the Diocese of Wakefield, the Archdeacon of Craven and the Bishop of Tonbridge before his translation to the episcopal see of Edinburgh.[5] A keen snorkeller and short-wave radio enthusiast,[6] he is married with two daughters.[2]

He retired as Bishop of Edinburgh on Monday, 15 August 2011.[7]
