Brian Ireland (born November 14, 1980) is an American musician. He is best known as the drummer for Something Corporate. Ireland also worked on an album with former Something Corporate member William Tell, who signed a deal with Universal Records in late 2006. He is currently a member of Live Oak Revue.
Career
Early years
Ireland was born in Dana Point, California. Growing up, his father owned a music store. Because of this, musical instruments and musicians were a part of Ireland's daily life. Ireland began seriously playing the drums at age 17 after receiving a set for Christmas. Shortly afterward, Ireland formed a band called Left Here with future Something Corporate members Andrew McMahon and Kevin "Clutch" Page. Though they won a local battle of the bands competition, they soon broke up. In 1998, Ireland and his former bandmates joined up with Josh Partington and Reuben Hernandez to form Something Corporate. Tell later replaced Hernandez. Ireland has said that the first drum beats he ever came up with were for Something Corporate.[1]
Something Corporate
Fronted by McMahon, Something Corporate recorded their self-released ten-song demo album Ready... Break in 2000, which led to a record deal with the indie record label Drive-Thru Records. Drive-Thru released the band's nationwide distributed debut EP Audioboxer the following year. The CD earned rave reviews and caught the attention of Drive-Thru's distributor MCA (now Geffen Records). Due to the labels' distribution deal, MCA was able to sign over Something Corporate and released their major label debut Leaving Through the Window in May 2002.
The band promoted the album by playing concerts across the United States, which included the main stage at Vans Warped Tour, as well as supporting New Found Glory on their European tour. Something Corporate released their second full-length album North on Geffen Records in late 2003. In late 2004, after years of touring, the exhausted bandmates agreed to take a break. The band is no longer under contract with any label.
In December 2009, Something Corporate officially announced their reunion. The band's greatest hits album, featuring two new recordings of old material and a remix of "I Woke Up in a Car" by Adam Young of Owl City, was released on April 27, 2010. In August 2010, the band embarked on a reunion tour.
William Tell and Streamline
After Tell's departure from Something Corporate in early 2004, Ireland assisted in the recording of his debut album, You Can Hold Me Down. Ireland has several credits on the album, including drums, programming, and background vocals.[2] Ireland also toured and performed live as part of Tell's band.
On December 10, 2006, it was announced that Ireland would also be joining the Louisiana-based band Streamline as their drummer, on top of his other drumming positions. According to Ireland, he met some of Streamline's members at a recording studio on the day he was set to begin recording drum tracks for Tell's debut album. They recognized him from Something Corporate and later phoned Ireland at the studio to ask him to sit for a drumming session.[3] Ultimately, he became a regular member of the band. Ireland wrote two songs ("Let Go" and "Anything") for Streamline's 2009 EP, The Alchemist and the Arsonist. In November 2009, Ireland left Streamline.
Live Oak Revue
Ireland is currently a member of the band Live Oak Revue with his brothers, Derek and Matt Ireland, and friend Zak Salazar. The band's debut EP, When the Dawn Breaks, was released on iTunes on June 21, 2011. McMahon is featured on the track "Sinner's Heart."[4] The band has toured with Jack's Mannequin and Steel Train.[5]
Personal life
An avid surfer, Ireland supports the Surfrider Foundation.[6]
