Brookspoint is a barangay located in the Aurora Hill district of Baguio in the Philippines.
Name
Brookspoint was often referred to as the "Workingmen's Village", referring to the land owners during the time of Mayor Luis Lardizabal, until the name was changed to what it is known as today under Resolution 47-1974; Regular Meeting held on February 27, 1974 D-2A6. The name Brookspoint is believed to have originated from its location, bounded by brooks and creeks.
Political division
Originally, the barangay was only a small territory, since its area was composed of only 3 Puroks. As time progressed and the number of people increased, houses were built within and around the area, increasing the need to establish its correct boundaries. At present, Brookspoint is composed of seven puroks, and is surrounded by nearby barangays such as Pacdal, East Modernsite, South Central,and Bayan Park.
Demographics
As of the 2000 census of the NSCB, Brookspoint had a total population of 1,477. NSO 2007 Census, population is 2,081. NSO Census 2010, population is 2,299. (NSO Statistics)
Geography
Land Area - The total land area of Brookspoint is approximately 13.64 square kilometers. This is inclusive of parts of the mountains. The landmarks circumscribing the community which roughly delineate its boundaries are:
- East- Busol Watershed
- West- Ledesma, South Central Barangay
- North- East Bayan Park Brgy
- South- Pacdal Barangay
Language and Dialects
The residents of Brookspoint are a mixture of different peoples of different cultural and ethnical backgrounds who speak varied languages. The most common spoken language is Ilocano, with a large number of residents from the Tagalog ethnic group.
Developments
Brookspoint is one of only ten barangays in Baguio City currently covered by Smart Communications' 'Me Na Me' mobile television service.
Education
- Brookspoint Elementary School. Starting its operations in 2009, Brookspoint Elementary School has become one of the anchor projects of the Puguon administration with funding coming from the Department of Education and the National Government. It humbly started as a primary school with 2 buildings to a full-fledged elementary school offering grades one to six.
