Broomfield Academy is an independent nationally accredited private academic preschool, elementary school and middle school serving children ages 2 ½-14. It is located in Broomfield, Colorado, and offers small class sizes, individualized student learning plans and an advanced curriculum. Through individualized instruction, the ceiling for performance is as high as individual students can reach through a combination of effort, ability, and instructional opportunity.
Broomfield Academy provides individualized programming for children in academic preschool through eighth grade, allowing them to become exceptional, accelerated and creative students. Full-day programming includes a before/after school program, art, music, technology, swimming, physical education, French language, Spanish language, and Mandarin Chinese language instruction. The school is a member of the National Association for Gifted Children, the Boulder Area Consortium of Independent Schools and the National Independent Private Schools Association. In recent Stanford Achievement Tests, most Broomfield Academy students have scored more than two years above grade level.[2]
History
Broomfield Academy was founded in 1995, and was formerly named Academic Achievement Academy and Meritor Academy. Renamed Broomfield Academy in 2007, the school is located on a 5-acre (20,000 m2) property in Broomfield, Colorado. The early education program was founded and has been operational since 1968. Owned and operated for over 30 years by Bonnie Andresen, the preschool was originally named Bonnie Bain Preschool. Bonnie, along with her husband Roger, expanded the school from its location in the original Marsh farmhouse, adding a 10,000 sq. ft preschool building and renaming the school A Child's Adventure Land. An enclosed swimming pool was added, along with a metal multipurpose building, now called "The Den." The property was leased to Children's World for an 8-year period starting in 1999. A Child's Adventure Land was renamed Children's World. The elementary school, opened in 1995 as Academic Achievement Academy was operated as Meritor Academy. In 2007, after Knowledge Learning Corporation, which had acquired Children's World, decided not to renew the property lease, Bonnie leased the property to Academic Achievement Group, which later purchased the property. In continuous operation for over 40 years, thousands of local children have been educated at what is now Broomfield Academy. Throughout its history, there has been a continuous focus on providing individualized education, maintaining small class sizes and having a focus on character education. Bonnie's legacy continues,[3] and there are now numerous children attending Broomfield Academy whose parents, and even grandparents, attended the school. Some of the Broomfield Academy teachers currently at the school have worked there since it was Meritor Academy, Children's World and A Child's Adventure Land.
Broomfield Academy's academic preschool program, called Jr. Kindergarten, was expanded in 2008, and now serves children ages 2 ½-5. The focus of the academic preschool (sometimes referred to as Pre-kindergarten) is to assure that children are fully prepared for kindergarten and for their elementary education. The swimming pool, used by all of the children as part of the physical education program was renovated in 2009 and provides swimming lessons to the community at-large. The middle school program, which serves grades 5-8, was added in 2011.
