American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars has released two studio albums, two extended plays, seventeen singles (including seven as a featured artist), five promotional singles, and twenty music videos. As of August 2014, Mars has sold over 100 million albums and singles worldwide,[1] and he currently has seven singles counted among best-selling singles (in order of release date:"Just the Way You Are", "Grenade", "The Lazy Song", "Locked Out of Heaven", "When I Was Your Man", "Treasure", and "Uptown Funk"). Nevertheless, as a performer, writer and producer his total sales surpass 130 million singles. He is also the eleventh best selling digital singles artist in the United States (US) according to Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), with 29 million records sold in the country.[2] In 2012, Mars was the named the best selling artist of 2011 in the world.[3]
After Mars signed with Atlantic Records in 2009, he provided the composition, as The Smeezingtons, and guest vocals on the debut singles of American rappers B.o.B ("Nothin' on You") and Travie McCoy ("Billionaire") in early 2010.[4] The former peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. In the same year, Mars released his debut extended play, It's Better If You Don't Understand, as a prelude to the release of his debut studio album Doo-Wops & Hooligans in October. Its singles "Just the Way You Are" and "Grenade" both topped charts in the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom (UK), and have been certified quintuple platinum by the RIAA. The album peaked peaked atop the charts in several countries and sold six million copies worldwide. In 2011, Mars recorded the single "It Will Rain" for the soundtrack of the film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, which peaked at number three on the US. In the same year, he appeared on a number of collaborative singles.
Mars' second album Unorthodox Jukebox was released in December 2012 and achieved the success of its predecessor on the charts and sales, it topped the Billboard 200 and sold six million copies worldwide. When its singles "Locked Out of Heaven" and "When I Was Your Man" topped the Billboard Hot 100 Mars became the second fastest artist to land five number-one singles, behind Elvis Presley. In 2014, Mars provided the vocals to Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk", a single that topped the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and UK and was certified nine times platinum by the RIAA.
