Buford High School is a public four year comprehensive high school located in Buford, Georgia USA, in the northern Metro Atlanta area.

History

The school was opened in 1948. In 2009, Buford was awarded a silver award for Highest Percentage of Students Meeting and Exceeding Standards. The award is given by the State of Georgia Governor's Office of Achievement. The school has a student to teacher ratio of 19 to 1.[1]

Academics

The school, for the 2010-2011 school year, had the highest passing rate in the Georgia Graduation Test, with 96% passing. Buford also ranks in the top 6% of students who pass AP courses.. A part of the greater Buford City Schools System, Buford was ranked as the top school system in the state of Georgia.[2]

Renown as a perennial athletic powerhouse in the state of Georgia, Buford has won state championships in the following:

Arts

The literary team and theater program at Buford High School have been very successful. The literary team has won thirteen Georgia High School Association State Literary Championships (1976, 1980, 1982, 1985, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015).[11] The theater program, competing in the Georgia High School Association One-Act Play, has won two state championships (2011, 2013).[12]
