Burchwood (Kent cricketer)

Burchwood (first name and dates unknown) was an English cricketer who played for Kent during the 1750s and 1760s. It is possible that his real name was William Burchard.

Career

Burchwood played for All-England against Dartford in the three first-class matches found in the 1759 sources. Burchwood and John Frame were noted as "the main bowlers for All-England".[1][2] Dartford won the series 2–1.

Although named Burchwood by the other main sources, it is possible that he was one William Burchard of Leigh in Kent. In Maun's 1759 notes, he states re the third England v Dartford match that "William Burchard of Leigh (allegedly) played in this match".[3]
