CKBB-FM was a former radio station in Sudbury, Ontario, broadcasting tourist information programming at 102.9 FM. Owned by Eternacom Inc., the station was licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission in 2000[1] and launched in 2001. The station was branded as STIR "Sudbury Tourism and Information Radio".
The station was closed down in 2005 due to lack of funding and technical issues after it struggled to maintain sufficient advertising to maintain the operation. A year later, an article was published in the Sudbury Star about the defunct station. [2] On June 5, 2006, the CRTC renewed CKBB-FM's licence from September 1, 2006 to August 31, 2013, [3] As to date, CKBB-FM remains off the air, although sister station CJTK-FM is still broadcasting.
Prior to CKBB-FM's launch in 2001 in Sudbury, the call sign CKBB was used by an AM radio station in Barrie, Ontario from 1949 to 1994, now known as CIQB.
