CKGI-FM

CKGI-FM is a new community radio station which will operate at 98.7 MHz (FM) in Gabriola Island, British Columbia, Canada.

History

On May 19, 2011, an application by the Gabriola Radio Society (GRS) to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to operate a new english-language community FM radio station to serve Gabriola Island on the frequency 98.7 MHz (channel 254A1) with an effective radiated power of 60 watts (non-directional antenna with a height above average terrain of 178 metres).[1] The CRTC approved Gabriola Radio Society's application on November 2, 2011.[2]

In June 2010 Gabriola Radio became the first station to host the National Radio Conference prior to obtaining a broadcast license.
