Caseinolytic peptidase B protein homolog, also known as mitochondrial AAA ATPase chaperonin, is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the CLPB gene.,[1][2][3] which encodes an ATP-dependent protease and chaperone; it is a chaperone involved in disaggregating proteins and also has a role in de novo protein synthesis under mild stress conditions.

Structure

Gene

The gene CLPB encodes protein Caseinolytic peptidase B protein homolog in human. The human CLPB gene has 19 exons and locates at chromosome band 11q13.4.[3]{

Protein

The human protein Caseinolytic peptidase B protein homolog has five isoforms due to alternative splicing. Isoform 1 is considered as one having the 'canonical' sequence. The pretein is 78.7 kDa in size and composed of 707 amino acids. It contains a N-terminal mitochondrial targeting sequence (1-36 amino acids). After processing, the matured mitochondrial protein has a theoretical pI of this protein isoform is 8.53.[4]
