CQ5
CQ5 or Communique5 (renamed as Adobe Experience Manager) is a Web Content Management System (WCMS) designed[1] to enable users (mainly marketers and IT professionals) to create, edit, manage and optimize websites across different digital channels such as web, mobile, social and more. It runs on Java based server and is platform independent. It is one of the five Adobe Marketing Cloud products which also includes Adobe Analytics, Adobe Target, Adobe Social, and Adobe Media Optimizer.
Features
Main features of CQ5[2] include:
- Reusable components and templates to create any number of web pages/sites; decoupling the content. Multisite management.
- Author and Publish instances to create, edit, optimize and publish web pages/sites;
- Web Content Management System (WCM), Marketing Campaign Management (MCM) and Digital Asset Management (DAM) capabilities to manage content, images, audio and video files and more of a website;
- Allows integration with other Marketing Cloud solutions and marketing tools to interact with target audience.

History
The origins of the product CQ5[3] was in 2002 when Switzerland -based Day Software introduced its first Day Communique version, Day CQ 3.5. After this, three versions, day CQ 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2, were introduced in 2005, 2006 and 2008 respectively. In 2008, CQ5 was introduced as Day CQ 5.0. Following this, two versions, CQ 5.2 and CQ 5.3, were released by Day Software in 2009 and 2010 respectively. In July 2010, Adobe Systems renamed Day CQ5 as Adobe CQ5 following the acquisition of Day Software.[4] The remaining versions, CQ 5.4 and CQ 5.5, were released as Adobe CQ 5.4 and Adobe CQ 5.5 in 2011 and 2012 respectively. In 2013, Adobe Systems again renamed it as Adobe Experience Manager (also known as Adobe AEM or AEM) and released a new version, Adobe Experience Manager 5.6. The latest version of Adobe AEM, Adobe Experience Manager 6.2 was released recently in 2016.
