C. Narayanaswamy is a former MP (1996–97) having represented Bangalore North Constituency. He is currently associated with Indian National Congress (INC).

Early life

Mr. C.Narayanaswamy was born in an agricultural family in Channahalli village near Devanahalli. He studied at the National High School, St. Joseph's College and Bangalore University Law College.

Education

He obtained Bachelor's degree (B.A) from St. Joseph's College, Bangalore. He represented the students in his capacity as Student - Secretary. He also represented the college in weightlifting and volleyball championships. He pursued law and obtained the law degree from University Law College, Bangalore.

Career

Mr. C.Narayanaswamy (CNS) as he is popularly known practiced law in Devanahalli and Bangalore working along with former Advocate-General of Karnataka B.T. Parthasarathy. During this stint, he took up the cause of farmers representing them in various cases against the Government.

Political career

Narayanaswamy was a member of the Janata Dal (Secular) and became Bangalore North's MP between the years 1996-1998 representing it. He joined the Indian National Congress on the 15th of August, 2013. Narayanaswamy is the Indian National Congress' candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.[3][4]

Mr. C. Narayanaswamy is a politician who has rendered over three decades of service to Karnataka State. Coming from an agricultural background, Mr. C. Narayanaswamy has served in both political and administrative positions. As a person who has always stood for secularism and social justice, he has never compromised in his principles.

Mr. C. Narayanaswamy was elected to Lok Sabha from Bangalore North Constituency with a margin of 1.3 lakh (130 thousand) votes. As a Member of Parliament, he worked for the revival of several public sector organisations and undertook developmental projects in the areas of education, employment, poverty alleviation, health, etc. He represented India in the United Nations (UN) and made a presentation in the UN General Assembly.

Mr. C. Narayanaswamy also served as the President of Bangalore Rural Zilla Parishad. The public works he undertook are still remembered by the people of Bangalore. Many of the innovative programs around rural development and decentralisation power launched by him won awards at State and National levels.

Mr C. Narayanaswamy is an authority in the area of rural development, panchayati raj and decentralisation of power. He has worked with Panchayati Raj votaries such as Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyer and India's late Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. Mr. Narayanaswamy has deep interest in local governance systems that empower people and he was instrumental in providing his expertise to different States in India. Such a passion for this area comes from Mr. C. Narayanaswamy's hands-on experience in heading panchayat institutions. Mr. Narayanaswamy conducts training programs for senior government officials and elected representatives on public administration and decentralisation of power.
