California Lutheran High School (CLHS) is an Area Lutheran High School operated by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS).[1] Located in Wildomar, California, United States,[2] the high school offers a Christian education.[3] A faculty, trained at Martin Luther College, serves approximately 70-90 students each school year. The school is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.[4]

Athletics

California Lutheran High School offers a variety of sports for both men and women. CLHS athletics are a part of the California Interscholastic Federation.[5]

CLHS offers men's 8-man football in the fall,[6] as opposed to traditional 11-man football, because of its smaller enrollment. CLHS Football belongs to the Agape League of the CIF-SS 8-man small school division.[7]

CLHS offers women's volleyball in the fall as well.[8] CLHS volleyball belongs to the Arrowhead League, Division 5AA.[9]

CLHS offers both men and women's basketball during the winter months.[10] CLHS basketball belongs to the Arrowhead League, Southern Section Division 6.[11]

CLHS also offers men's baseball and women's softball in the spring.[12] CLHS baseball and softball belong to the Arrowhead League, Division 6.[13][14]

CLHS also offers co-ed sports to its students, including soccer, track, and cross country.[15] CLHS soccer belongs to the Arrowhead League, Division 7.[16] CLHS Track belongs to the Arrowhead League, Division 4.[17]

Doe v. California Lutheran High School Association

Prior to May 2009 the school accused two 16-year-old girls of possessing "bond of intimacy" "characteristic of a lesbian relationship" and expelled them both. In 2009 the California Supreme Court ruled that it did not have to comply with the Unruh Civil Rights Act a California state law preventing businesses from discriminating because the school was a social organization and not a business. This was based on a 1998 state supreme decision that defined the Boy Scouts as a social organization.[18]
