Campeonato Nacional de Futebol Feminino
The Campeonato Nacional (Portuguese for National Championship), is a Portuguese semi-professional league for women's association football clubs. It is run by Portuguese Football Federation and began in 1993. An initial ten teams compete in the league, which replaced the Taça Nacional as the highest level of women's football in Portugal. The current champions are Atlético Ouriense which won its first title in 2013 and broke a decade long of absolute domination of S.U. 1º de Dezembro.
Current format
The ten teams play a double round robin as a regular season. After that teams 1 to 4 play a championship group, teams 5 to 10 play a relegation group.
The points obtained in the regular season are halfed and added to those in the playoffs. The winner of the championship group is crowned the champion and qualifies for a spot in the UEFA Women's Champions League.
The teams in the last two places of the relegation group get relegated to the second division.[1]
