The Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) is a minor hockey league based in Western Canada and the United States.

The CSSHL was founded in 2009 with five "Sport Schools" based in Alberta and British Columbia. The CSSHL was specifically designed to enable like-minded players an increased level of competition and exposure.

Today, the CSSHL currently has grown to 33 teams from 13 different "Sport Schools" spread across six divisions: Prep, Varsity, Elite 15s, Bantam Prep, Bantam Varsity and Female. Over 300 CSSHL alumni have gone on to play Junior 'A' or Major Junior hockey.[1]

History

Founded in 2009, the five original members of the CSSHL were the Banff Hockey Academy, Edge School for Athletes, Okanagan Hockey Academy, Pursuit of Excellence and the Swiss International Sports & Education Centre.

The CSSHL underwent a massive expansion for the 2013-14 season, expanding from 11 teams to 23 teams spread across three divisions from nine different "Sport Schools".[2] The Burnaby Winter Club,[3] Compete Hockey Academy,[4] Delta Hockey Academy[5] and Yale Hockey Academy[6][7] were all accepted into the League. The CSSHL also introduced a new division in 2013-14, adding an Elite 15s Division, which is made up of Under-16 teams.[8]

Tyler Benson, the first overall pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft by the Vancouver Giants,[9][10] elected to join the Pursuit of Excellence for the 2013-14 season.[11][12]

On February 27, 2014, the CSSHL announced that they will be adding two Bantam Divisions beginning in the 2014-15 season.[13][14]

On May 10, 2014, the CSSHL introduced two new programs to the league with the acceptance of the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy and Shawnigan Lake School. [15]

In June of 2015, the CSSHL expanded two 13 programs with the additions of two schools in Edmonton, AB: the Northern Alberta X-Treme and OHA Edmonton. The League also announced that beginning in the 2015-16 season, a Female Division would take to the ice.
