Capital punishment in Lithuania

Lithuania on the map of Europe

Capital punishment in Lithuania was abolished for all crimes in 1998.[1][2]

The last execution in the country occurred in July 1995, when Lithuanian Mafia boss Boris Dekanidze was put to death.[3]

Lithuania is a member of the European Union and the Council of Europe. It has also signed and ratified Protocol no.13.

Lithuania used poison gas as an execution method in 1937-1940, using a gas chamber built in the Kaunas fort.
