Carl Higbie
Carl Higbie is a former Navy SEAL[1] and author.[2] He served two tours of duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom.[3] Higbie led the Navy SEAL Team which captured the Butcher of Fallujah, Ahmad Hashim Abd al-Isawi.[4] Al-Isawi was the second most wanted man in the world at the time after Osama bin Laden.[5] Higbie is the author of two books Battle on the Home Front: A Navy SEAL’s Mission to Save the American Dream[6] and Enemies, Foreign & Domestic: A SEAL's Story. He is a frequent guest on Fox News and CNN to provide commentary on political and military issues.[7] Higbie unsuccessfully ran for Congress in Connecticut in 2014.[8]
Navy
Carl Higbie served for nearly a decade as a U.S. Navy SEAL capturing high value targets in Iraq.[9] After Higbie's book Battle on the Home Front: A Navy SEAL's Mission to Save the American Dream[10] was published in 2012, his security clearance was downgraded from "top secret".[11] He signed out of the SEALs before the end of his term of duty with an honorable discharge. Some two months later the Navy downgraded his discharge to "general".[11] Higbie successfully challenged the Navy in court and had his honorable discharge reinstated.[12] A second book, Enemies, Foreign and Domestic: A SEALS's Story, was published in 2016.[13]
Butcher of Fallujah
Carl Higbie led the Navy SEAL Team which captured the infamous "Butcher of Fallujah" Ahmad Hashim Abd al-Isawi.[14] At the time of his capture, al-Isawi was the second most wanted man in the world after Osama bin Laden.[15] Al-Isawi was responsible for the gruesome murders of four U.S. military contractors, three former SEALs and one former Army Ranger.[16] He ruthlessly murdered them, burned their bodies, then dragged them through the streets before hanging them from a bridge.[17] In 2009, Echo Platoon, of SEAL Team 10 received intel on his location and they undertook a daring nighttime raid.[18] Higbie was joined by Team members Matthew McCabe and Jonathon Keefe, among others. They flawless executed the raid and brought al-Isawi back to base.[19]
