Carlisle City Football Club are an English association football club based in Carlisle, Cumbria. The club are members of the Northern Football Alliance and play in the Premier Division. They play at Gillford Park after taking over the lease from Celtic Nation in 2015.
History
The club was formed in 1975 by two former Carlisle United players, George Walker and Ron Thompson. The club have been members of the Northern Football Alliance since 1975. After taking over the lease of Gillford Park in 2015, the club revealed ambitions to play at a higher level and in March 2016, it was announced that they have applied to join the North West Counties Football League and that Gillford Park had passed a FA ground grading test.
Local rivals
Northbank Carlisle are City's main rivals and both teams compete in the same league. A lot of players in the city have played for both clubs. Carlisle United are the largest club in the city and only time the two clubs meet is in a friendly or a Cumberland Senior Cup match.
