The Carlucci American International School of Lisbon (CAISL) is a non-profit, non-denominational, co-educational K-12 day school in Sintra, Portugal, in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. It is named for Frank C. Carlucci, former American ambassador to Portugal and former U.S. Secretary of Defense.

Facilities

CAISL's campus offers a number of quality sports and educational facilities. The campus comprises a Library Media Center with over 35,000 items, computers in all classrooms and wireless internet access throughout the campus, 1 computer per student in grades 3 through 5, one laptop per student in grades 6 through 12, fully equipped science laboratory classrooms, purpose-built art and music classrooms, state-of-the-art 450-seat theater, full-service cafeteria and snack bar, 1,400m2 covered gymnasium, more than 10,000m2 of exterior sports fields for basketball, soccer and other sports.

Student body

In the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year, CAISL had a total of 637 students, including 264 Portuguese (42%), 97 American (15%), 276 from 40 other nationalities.

Accreditation and governance

CAISL is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS).[1]

CAISL is licensed by the Portuguese Ministry of Education (ME). CAISL is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.

CAISL is governed by the not-for-profit Fundação Escola Americana de Lisboa (FEAL).

Diploma

All students who complete CAISL’s graduation requirements earn an American high school diploma. Additionally, those who fulfill the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program requirements, earn an IB diploma. CAISL graduates are eligible to apply for entrance into universities around the world, including the United States, United Kingdom, Portugal and other European countries.
