Carniny Amateur & Youth FC is a junior-level football club from Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The club was developed initially as a youth level club and was founded in 2000. A senior side was introduced in 2009, playing junior-level football in the junior divisions of the Ballymena & Provincial League before gaining Intermediate status in 2011, retaining their membership until 2014. The club then dropped down to junior status in order to gain entry into the Northern Amateur Football League where they played in Division 2C. After a single season at this level they moved again, joining the Ballymena Saturday Morning League.[1]
The club has a Football Development Centre that caters for players from age 5-8. They have mini soccer sides at U9, U10 and U 11 with teams from U12-17 playing in the NIBFA National League and an U19 team in NIFL Youth League Section B.
Club History
Carniny Amateur and Youth Football Club was founded in the summer of 2000 from very humble beginnings, involving six children kicking a ball around at Carnhill Playing Fields, Carniny, Ballymena, Northern Ireland.
A Coaching School was formed by a handful of interested parents under the auspices of the IFA Model for Mini Soccer and the number of children (boys and girls) wanting to attend grew very rapidly and had reached 60 by the autumn of that year.
A competition was launched for the children within the Club to design their Club's Badge and the winning badge clearly reflects the Club's aims - Football, the handshake as a symbol of Friendship and the laurel leaf as a symbol of vitality and youth.
Since the formation we have made steady progress and now have a membership of almost 250 young people, fielding eight full-sided and several mini soccer teams backed by a flourishing mini soccer centre.
Recent times saw a new development within the club with the formation of a Senior team playing in the Ballymena and Provincial Football League and the Northern Amateur Football League. the senior team now plays in the Ballymena Saturday Morning League Division Three.
The club is a partner club of Coerver Coaching Ulster.
The club has recently entered a partnership with Sunderland AFC through their Foundation of Light Programme.
The club is also registered as a CASC Community Amateur Sports Club .
The club has also achieved IFA Club Excellence Mark status.
