Carnival Art was an American alternative rock band. Formed in Los Angeles in 1988, the band in the beginning consisted of Michael P. Tak (lead vocals, guitar), Shane Paul Rhody (guitar, vocals), Ed (bass guitar), and Keith Fallis (drums, vocals).

In 1989, the band released their debut album, titled Like Nobody's Business, exclusively on vinyl on Spineless Voodoo Records.[1] After this album, Rhody exited the band, with original bassist Ed replacing him on guitar and Brian Bell joining the band to assume bass duties.

In 1990, the band released an EP titled Dig, followed by their second full-length studio album, Thrumdrone, released a year later on Situation Two Records. The album was later re-released on Beggars Banquet Records after the band got signed to the label in 1991. Their third and final studio album, Welcome to Vas Llegas, was released in 1992 along with two subsequent EPs titled Blue Food and Black Sparks and Holy Smokes. The latter of the two EPs contained a cover of "Feel Like Makin' Love" by Bad Company. The band also recorded a cover of "Cold Ethyl" for an Alice Cooper tribute album titled Welcome to Our Nightmare: A Tribute to Alice Cooper, released in 1993.

At the time, alternative rock was deemed irrelevant to the grunge movement that was occurring then, and because of this, the band saw very little commercial success, which ultimately led to them being dropped from their label, Beggars Banquet, and the band eventually breaking up altogether afterwards.

Following the break-up, Bell had formed a duo with his then-girlfriend, Susan Fox, called the Space Twins, and then went on to become the rhythm guitarist for Weezer. Also, the song "Mr. Blue Veins", from the album Thrumdrone, was featured in an episode of the MTV animated series Beavis and Butt-head, and Tak recorded a solo album titled Pretty Little Lonely under the name Michael Petak.[2]
