Carol Wood (born July 26, 1950 in Lansing, Michigan) is a current councilwoman-at-large for the City of Lansing, MI having been elected for the At-Large position in November 1999, two years after an unsuccessful campaign for the 4th Ward in 1997.

Personal life

Carol Wood was born July 26, 1950 in Lansing, MI. She is the oldest of three siblings. Carol Wood grew up in the Lansing area attending Michigan Avenue Elementary School, Genesee Street Elementary School, graduating in 1968 from West Junior High School, as well as graduating from J. W. Sexton.

After graduating in 1968, Carol Wood moved to Anchorage, Alaska and worked for the State of Alaska Public School Library Division. In 1970 during her stay in Anchorage she married, and after 31 years she divorced. In 1972, Wood and her family moved back to Lansing. Wood is the mother of two sons, Christopher and Jason.

Political career

Early work

Wood helped make changes to the Housing Code and implement team policing with the Lansing Police Department.

City Council

In 1997, Wood ran for 4th Ward Council Member and lost to Michael Murphy. In 1999 she ran for an At-Large seat and won. Wood was re-elected in 2003 and 2007. Wood served her first term as Vice President in 2002, and served as President of Council in 2003 & 2013. Wood has sat on every Council Committee and chaired every committee within City Council.

2009 Mayoral Campaign

Early in 2009, Carol Wood announced her candidacy for mayor of Lansing against incumbent Virg Bernero. Wood lost this campaign, with a 63%/37% victory to Virg Bernero.
