PBJ's food cart at the Cartopia Pod in Portland, Oregon

Cartopia is a food cart pod (lot of many food trucks) located on the corner of SE 12th Avenue and Hawthorne Boulevard in South East Portland, Oregon.

History

The famous cart pod has occupied the corner of Hawthorne Boulevard and SE 12th avenue since 2009. It is often referred to as one of the cart pods that pioneered the now iconic food cart culture in Portland, Oregon.[1]

It was reported by The Oregonian on May 22, 2014 that plans had been submitted to city development officials to construct an apartment complex on the lot where Cartopia was started, and the developer had confirmed he had a contract to purchase the lot.[2] It was later reported by KATU that the carts will be forced to close in November 2014.[3]

On September 17, 2014 it was reported by Willamette Week that the landlord of the property had offered the cart owners two year extensions to their current leases.[4]
