History
CashKaro was launched by Rohan Bhargava[1] and Swati Bhargava[2] in 2013.[3] They moved to India, after establishing a cashback website in the UK known as Pouring Pounds. They started CashKaro after raising a fund of 750,000 USD via angel investors[4][5] in the UK[6] and is India’s only externally funded cashback website to date. To increase the online shopping trend in India, the company offers rebates to its customers who shop online and has driven a sale of Rs.100 crore for its partners in 15 months.[7] In these 15 months company has delivered cashback worth Rs.3 crore to customers who shopped via cashkaro and this amount of real cashback reached Rs.35 Crores till 19 August 2015.[8]
Recently, the website has enabled its price comparison facility which lets a user compare prices of a product from up to 15 different online retailers to choose from.[9]
The company also launched india's first cashback festival Great Online Cashback Festival (GOCF).[10]
Business Model
CashKaro works on an affiliate model.[11] When users visit any online shopping site of their choice via the company's website and make a purchase, the company gets commission against this purchase from affiliates.
CashKaro has partnered with 800 retailers to offer free coupons and cashback which includes Amazon.in,Snapdeal, Paytm, Flipkart, Jabong, Homeshop18, Lenskart, Sundaykart and FabFurnish. Rohan and Swati are now planning to list about 50 global retailers which will enable the company to serve its Indian customers to shop from international markets as well.
The price comparison facility offered by CashKaro makes its users eligible to compare the price of a product from different retailers on the website itself.[12] Having the price of a product from different retailers in front makes shopping easy and saves a lot of time. It also runs a refer and earn program wherein users can earn for life time on a purchase made by users referred by them.
The Company has recently partnered with Alibaba.com wholesale to offer cashback services in India.[13]
Finances
After its presence in UK market, CashKaro was started with a seed fund of USD 750,000 from UK based angel investors in mid 2013 and crossed INR 1.5 crore in cashback paid to its customers in March 2014.[14][15] Till August 2015, Company has enabled sales worth Rs.350 Crores in the retail sector in India and given a cashback of Rs.15 crores to its users.
