The Castle of Geraldo (Portuguese: Castelo de Geraldo/Castelo de Giraldo) is a ruined medieval castle located in the civil parish of Nossa Senhora da Tourega e Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, in the municipality of Évora, Portugal, Portuguese district of Évora.
History
There is a fortress that existed in pre-history. The structure likely originate in the Bronze Age or as far back as the Chalcolithic era, there are traces of subsequent occupations.
It presents subcircular plant and an outer perimeter of 114 meters. The wall surviving to the present day date from the medieval occupation period.
fifteenth-century sources refer to fortification, associating it with the presence of Giraldo Fearless warrior who conquered Évora Muslims in 1165.
It is currently being classified.
From its walls one can see the city of Évora and the village of Valverde (Our Lady of Tourega).[1]
