Central Power Engineering Service

The Central Power Engineering Service is a Central Civil Services Group-A Gazetted technical post of the Government of India. Through Engineering Services Examination (ESE), both group A and Group B post are filled in Central Power Engineering. [1]

Organization

At present, there are twenty-nine Divisions in CEA headquarter at New Delhi in addition to 14 subordinate offices, viz. five Regional Inspectorate Organizations, four Regional Power Survey Organizations and five Regional Power Committees located in various parts of the country. The CEA is responsible for overall power sector planning, coordination, according concurrence to hydroelectric schemes, promote and assist in timely completion of projects, specifying of technical standards, safety requirements, Grid Standards as well as conditions for installation of meters applicable to the electricity sector of the whole country. CEA advises the Central Government on the National Electricity Policy. It also advises the Central and State Governments as well as the Electricity Regulatory Commissions on all technical matters relating to generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. It also has the mandate to collect, record and make public, data related to all segments of the electricity sector, carry out investigations and promote research.
