Economy

The city developed around an oil refinery plant that started its operations in 1956, which had a production of 1,500 tons/day at its peak. Along with it, the plant produced, starting from 1962 lubrifying oils, and, starting from 1965 soap. The plant was closed for environmental issues in the 1990s and the city has lost its splendor since. As a result, unemployment is currently very high.[3]
