Activism
Umang Choudhary is an RTI Activist and strong believer of Environmental Sustainability. He has been silently raising issue of Industrial Waste dumping throughout the State of Jharkhand before National Forums like the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India and The Hon'ble National Green Tribunal, New Delhi. Greenpeace India has also joined in the movement.
The efforts undertaken by this 24 years old activist have already started creating an impact; Adhunik Group of Industries was forced to clear a dump site in village Kadamdih. Also, Secretary Department of Environment, Govt. of Jharkhand was to file a Affidavit highlighting the Industrial waste dumping scenario in Jharkhand.[5]
This XLRI Graduate has made a impact on many lives directly but little is known of him as he prefers to be away from limelight.
In his only Interview to Come Seize The Word, an Online Magazine way back in 2012 he remarked, "Solid Toxic Industrial waste are being used as land filing material, Steel units not following Pollution Control Measures and using the entire ecosensitive zone as dumping yards for their waste and have even not spared river Subanrekha considered to be lifeline of the state....But business has other responsibilities too. It has too positively contribute to the society. No one should be allowed to flourish at the cost of others.[6]
Mr. Umang Choudhary also got featured into Greenpeace India Annual Report,2013 for leading a successful campaign against a Steel major. Being the only from Jharkhand to get this honour.
